Tartine Frangipane Tart question regarding almonds

Would I be okay to use whole almonds and chop in the food processor instead of sliced almonds as called for in the frangipane cream instructions? I’m thinking not because of all of the extra skin they would have. Thanks for input in advance. Reading More May Cause Envy…
